JOSEPH D. AMANN 63 years old
("Kentucky Joe")

Joe passed away peacefully at his home in Sarasota, Florida, Thursday, September 23, 2021, after a 10 month battle with cancer. He had beat this same cancer in 2004, but this round was just too aggressive and won the war. Joe was born in Northern Kentucky and he attended St Joseph Grade School in Cold Spring, KY and graduated High School in 1976 from Newport Catholic Newport KY. Throughout his childhood he played little league basketball for St Joseph's, football for the Campbell County Red Devils, and Knothole baseball. In 1981 he was awarded a medal for his achievement of 8th Kyu from U.S. Chito-Kai Karate Federation. Later adult years he played softball with several teams, including one primarily of cousins. He worked for Hicon Inc as a bricklayer with his father for several years, then decided to go into teaching. Joe went to college and studied at UK, U of L, NKU and Eastern Ky to earn a degree in teaching and became a Vocational School teacher in masonry. Respected by his students as he was able to communicate with them as Joe had pretty much done all the things the youngsters would try to do. He ultimately earned his Master's Degree and was awarded Principal of Campbell County Vocational School in Alexandria, Ky. He did enjoy life to the fullest good and bad. He strived for and succeeded to become the generous, caring, giving person we all knew and loved, taking the time to help however he could. He so enjoyed being with people whether working out daily at the gym, attending family functions and program meetings and cherished every friendship he had. He received his 37 year sobriety coin in February of this year, and was very proud of that accomplishment.

He retired in 2017 and moved to Florida where he continued to work out in the gym every day, but then included going to the beach every day as well. Joe absolutely loved being on the beach. Toward the end of his battle with cancer, he drove himself back to KY over the Memorial Day holiday weekend to visit his mom, family and friends - saying his good-byes. With courage and determination he fought the cancer head on with many different treatments and never complained. When he was no longer able to speak he'd text with a couple thumbs up, praying hands for that miracle to come or simply say, it's all good, until the time came when he knew it had beat him. Joe was a very spiritual person and we know he's in God's hands now who will continue to take care of him as always whenever he'd ask for guidance and strength. He will live on in the minds and hearts of those numerous lives he touched. He was preceded in death by his brother Donny and father Don Amann.

He is survived by his children Nicole (Tom) Land, Cole and Elena Amann; his mother Nancy (Rose) Amann; his siblings Linda (Amann, Hodson) Meister, Tim (Julie) Amann, Scott (Sue) Amann and Theresa (Todd) Tierney; 4 grandchildren Drew, Matthew, Josh and Addy; and 3 nieces and 4 nephews.

We wish to thank the doctors and nurses at the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa; Dr. John "Jay" Meyer his supporter and friend, and the staff and nurses of Tidewell Hospice team in Sarasota, for all their care during his last days.

Memorial services will be held by his many friends in Florida - one on October 16th, 11:00 am at the First Brethren Church, 150 N. Shade Ave, Sarasota, FL 34327 and another on October 24th, 1:00 pm at the Gratitude Club, 530 Payne Pkwy, Sarasota, FL 34327.

Memorial service will be held in Northern Kentucky at St. Philip Catholic Church, Mary Ingles Hwy, Melbourne, KY - time and date to be determined.
