Robert (Bob) William Meyer, known as “Monk” to all who knew him, passed away on January 29, 2022 in Sarasota, Florida after a battle with both Lymphoma and COVID 19. He was a beloved father, brother and uncle and a friend to all.
Bob is survived by his loving family; his daughter Alison Meyer Cheli and his son-in-law, David Cheli, his brothers Fred Meyer and Daniel Meyer, his sister-in-law Suyapa Meyer, his nephews Daniel and Fred Meyer, his great niece Isabella Meyer and great nephew Christian Meyer, and his former wife Arlene Meyer, as well as countless friends.
Bob is a United States Marine Corp Veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served with distinction and earned several medals including the Purple Heart and National Defense Service Medal. He was permanently disabled during his service and received other commendations for his dedication and bravery.
Bob was born in Suffern, New York to Frederick Meyer and Constance Stusalitis. He graduated from Ramsey High School in 1964 and went on to complete a degree in accounting from Monmouth University. He worked alongside his dear friend, Frank Grippo, for many years as a CPA for Grippo and CO, as well as provided accounting services for Xavier and Regis High Schools in New York City. Despite his physical disabilities, he was an avid golfer and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his friends and loved ones over a good meal and wine. He will be remembered as a kind friend and human, always ready and willing to lend a helping hand to long-time friends as well as near-strangers. His door was always open, both literally and figuratively, and no one was a stranger to him.
A celebration of life will be held at 3pm on Friday, February 4th on the patio at the Village Plaza Condominium Association, one of his favorite places to gather with friends. He will be buried with military honors at the Sarasota National Veterans Cemetery at a later date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Lymphoma Research Foundation (https://lymphoma.org/) and/or to PGA Hope (https://www.pgareach.org/services/military), the charitable foundation of the PGA of America that introduces golf to Veterans with disabilities to enhance their physical, mental, social and emotional well-being.

Monk was one of those folks that is an honor to have as a friend. His kindness, thoughtfulness and generosity had no bounds. Golf was his passion and he played pretty well despite his injury and illness. Complaining was not part of his character. We will miss him terribly. Keep it in the fairway my friend. ❤️
